THE FINAL WORD

[I find this old hymn and modified it. I don't recall who wrote the original, but I love the words and wanted to update it somehow. Since we just finished Revelation, it seemed an appropriate final text for a song.]

When Jesus died He fooled the cross

It was sin that died it was death that lost

The captive world awoke and found

The Prisoner loosed, the jailer bound

Ooo-ee The jailer was bound, the Prisoner was freed

Eee-oo And all the captives are freed, too

It was a dear and sweet dispute

For life and death bear different fruit

The two opposed and different far

As antidote and poison are

And by that first and fatal tree

It seemed both life and liberty

were given up were sold and slain

yet both arose to live again

So in this dark I see a light

For death brings life and day from night

And any who must enter heard that life, not death, 

is the final word.
